It seems that things on the internet against more secrets better and against more encrypted too. Security is an issue that seems to be more and more worrisome to Internet users as more and more users are more aware of how little private their information is on the network and everything Google knows about us.
It is important to know that we must control our privacy online as we are exposed to confidential information of ours being “seen” by unauthorized users. A few months ago we knew the WhatsApp end-to-end encryption and it is now finally when Facebook has decided to take the step and offer a function called “Secret Conversations” in which end-to-end encryption is established between these types of conversations.
Unlike WhatsApp Facebook Messenger offers this end-to-end encryption function as an alternative in chat since it is not set by default if we do not activate it . Below we explain the steps so you can activate this option.
Step 1
The first thing we must do is access Facebook Messenger and open the conversation that we want to be encrypted. Once here, we select the information icon located in the upper right corner.
Step 2
Next we will see among the available options one that says “Secret conversation”.
Step 3
When activating the secret conversation option, a pop-up window will appear informing us that the conversation will be encrypted only on the device that activates this.
Step 4
The next thing we have to do is accept that our messages are going to start being encrypted from one device to another, once we accept the conditions of use.
Step 5
Next we will see that the background color of the conversation turns black. We also have the possibility of creating self-destructive messages. To do this once we send the message we want to destroy, we have to select the clock that appears at the bottom of the conversation.
We can choose the time for self-destruction . It can vary between 5 seconds reaching 24 hours.
Note
There is one thing to keep in mind and that is that we will be able to send animated GIF files, share videos, or make money transfers in secret conversations, since they are not compatible with these features.
In this way, the conversations we select will be encrypted from end to end, making access to this information “impossible” for anyone but its authors.
