With the new features that we find in Windows 10 we will undoubtedly have many things that will make our experience with Windows something very interesting and novel but within these features we find one that can affect privacy and put at risk the information we have stored on the computer and it is the button that allows you to reveal the password on the lock screen.
This icon allows us to visualize in plain text the password that we have entered to validate that it is correct, since in many occasions we have several passwords for many applications and there is the possibility that we forget the password to access Windows 10 but as we have indicated this may be a security breach in our equipment.
Today we will see how we can disable this option of the lock screen or start in Windows 10 and for this we will see two options:
- Group Policy Editor
- Registry Editor
With the following video tutorial you can see how to disable the show password button on the login screen in Windows 10.
1. Remove option button see password in Windows 10 with GPO Editor
This option applies to those users who use Pro and Enterprise editions of Windows 10.
Step 1
To access the group policy editor, we will use the following key combination and in the pop-up window, enter the word gpedit.msc and press Enter.
+ R
Step 2
In the window that opens we must go to the following route:
- Equipment configuration
- Administrative Templates
- Windows components
- Credential User Interface
Step 3
In the right panel we must select policy “Do not show the button reveal password” and double click or right click / Properties and we will see the following.
Step 4
We can see that by default it is in "Not configured" mode which makes it visible on the Windows 10 lock screen. In this window we must check the Enabled box to hide the view password button on the lock screen. Finally click on Apply and then Accept to save the changes. Later we can block our session or restart the computer to visualize the change.
2. Remove option button see password in Windows 10 with Registry Editor
This option applies to those users who have the Home versions of Windows 10 since in these editions group policies are disabled.
Step 1
To access the registry editor we use the Execute command again and enter the term regedit. Once the registry editor window is open we will access the following route:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CredUI
Step 2
In some cases the "CredUI" folder does not exist, for this we must create it as follows. We right click on the Windows line and select the "New / Password" option. We assign the name "CredUI" and click OK.
Step 3
The next step is to create a record within the CredUI folder as follows. We right click on the CredUI folder and select "New / DWORD Value (32 bits)".
Step 4
In the displayed window we assign the name "DisablePasswordReveal" and click OK.
Step 5
We double-click or right-click / Modify this record and in the "Value information" field we set the number 1, which makes this option disabled. Click OK to save the changes.
Step 6
Once we restart the computer or the session is blocked we will see the required changes:
With these two simple ways we can eliminate that button to show password that can bring us some problem in certain situations, especially when we are in a public place or there is someone close to us. In this way, when the login screen appears to enter your data you will not have the option of having your password displayed through the points.
This login or unlock screen when we have a while the inactive equipment prevents another user from accessing it without our consent, that is, we protect it with username and password.
