Firefox will notify you if you visit a website that was hacked

Firefox does not stop being news in recent weeks, and is that with the launch of Firefox Quantum the acceptance by users of this operating system has been more than satisfactory for the company.

With news as succulent as a speed greater than Chrome in incognito mode, Mozilla is still working on new features to add to the browser. On this occasion, as reported by Bleepingcomputer, the company is working on a system with which to add an extra security measure to your browser. It is a notification service which will inform the user that this website was hacked in the past.

Firefox will report the websites that suffered data theft
Firefox has taken the issue of security and theft of databases on the web very seriously since, during the last year, the techniques and tools used for this have been considerably refined. A few days ago at Solvetic we echoed the alert launched by Sophos about the new trend of Ransomware.

The reality is that not all companies have laws in force that require them to disclose without being pirated or not. That is why Firefox wants users to be aware of the danger they may be running, and therefore intends to enter notifications in the browser every time a user visits web pages that were hacked in the past. These notifications will be received through the installation of a plugin.

How will this service work?
At the moment this new extension is not available for the search engine since it is in its early stages of development. Even so if we want to try it, we can find the code available on GitHub.

Mozilla will use the database of the Have I Been pwned platform to show the user a warning in case there is a filtered database of that platform he is visiting. This notification will include a tab in which we can include our email and check in this way if our account has been affected by the attack.

This is currently the only database available to the browser, but it is likely that more will be added over time, and consolidating the usefulness of this service.

Note

Currently only Firefox Developer Edition is supported.
